Pinwheel Border

For the past few weeks I've been giving my brain a rest from creating and following not only someone else's pattern, but their fabric choices as well.  I just completed 32 - 6" pinwheel blocks for the outside border of Urban Owls, a block-of-the-month quilt from Material Obsessions.  The pinwheels were much easier than the foundation pieced blocks shown in recent posts.  Nothing too demanding here, just basic piecing techniques.

To complete the quilt top my next task is 4 blocks made using a template and then 4 more foundation pieced blocks.  I can hardly wait for the day I sew it together and take it to my most favorite machine quilter for her expert finishing touches.

This block-of-the-month was exactly what I was looking for - a chance to learn several new techniques, the combination of applique and pieced blocks, and the mix of many colors and prints.  It has been a year long class and I think I will give myself an "A".

Although I said my brain was at rest, it has been busy daydreaming and even coming up with some new stitching ideas.  Giving myself a chance to slow down, read a book (or 2), take a nap, and not following a schedule is outside my comfort zone but it has been absolutely wonderful.
