Summer?

We spent Memorial Day weekend at our cabin, high in the Utah mountains.  We were able to drive in most of the winter because of light snow pack but you guessed it, first "summer" weekend it snowed!  Just a little bit but more than you want to see when you're ready for summer.

I've been working on a new project and it just happened that I was stitching snowflakes as I watched them falling.

My favorite part of this is the pine tree.  I used 3 colors of Shepherd's Silk in overlapping feather stitch and I think it almost looks like a real pine tree.

I'm a bit concerned about putting this project together, but in my mind it is really cute.  Taking an idea from my head, to paper, to cloth, and then sewing it into the final shape is sometimes quite a journey.  Hopefully, I will be able to finish this in a few weeks and show a photo - rather than report a failure.

Birthday Sale Ended

Thank you to everyone who shopped in my Etsy Store during my Birthday Sale.

Another year older, but I'm looking forward to what this year may bring.  I start off with the good news that my son is moving back to Utah.  My husband and I will fly to Chicago in a few weeks to help with the packing and driving the moving truck west.  My mind is brimming with new ideas and I hope to have a few new patterns finished this coming year and I'm learning some new stitching techniques too.

So, bottom line is, my hair is a lot more gray, I move slower, there are more wrinkles, but I don't care - I'm having a great life!

Big Sale in my Etsy Shop

I'm having a Big Birthday soon and if George Washington can have a sale on his birthday, why not me?  Sometimes I feel as old as George too.  But, don't feel sorry for me, I think this is the best time of my life.  No job, I don't have to worry about getting pregnant, and the government is going to start sending me a check.  Of course, there are down sides to getting older, but the alternative is much worse.

Beginning right now and ending on May 24th, EVERYTHING in my Etsy Shop is 20% off!  That's right, you can even order the Picking Posies wool kit and save 20%.  That's savings of $69 right there, plus you can save on the wool applique thread, pattern, and embroidery book too.  The regular shipping charges will still apply.

Just enter the coupon code "birthdaysale" when you check out to receive the discount.

Picking Posies

Finally, Spring has arrived and there are some blooms in my garden just waiting to be picked.  In the dark days of January I daydreamed of walking through a garden with my basket in hand.  I guess it just took some dark winter days to get me motivated to finish a design in my sketch book and stitch together my new "Picking Posies" wall-hanging.   The completed quilt is about 50" square, made primarily from hand-dyed wool with bits of cotton, ric-rac, and beads.  Each block is embellished with silk or cotton threads.

I'm very happy to offer a beautiful pattern for "Picking Posies" in my Etsy Shop, along with a kit for the hand-dyed wool, a thread kit which contains all the fibers I used to embellish the blocks, the Right (and left) Handed Embroiderer's Companion, wool applique thread in a convenient bobbin box, and needles!  Everything you need to create your own garden of blooms.

The pattern dedicates a full page to each block, with beautiful full-color photography, including close-ups of the embellishment.  The embroidery stitches and fibers used are also detailed along with full-sized templates.

I haven't convinced all my friends to try wool applique and embellishment yet, but I'm trying!  For them, this pattern will also be beautiful in cotton fabrics.

I'm Still Here!

Spring came early to Utah and we have been busy trying to get our yard into shape.  My sister, Lynda, has been busy dying piles of wool for the upcoming Farmer's Market season, along with some small projects.  This oh-so-cute pincushion is Lynda's design and to help her out, I stitched 5 of them last week.

This Saturday, May 12th Wheeler Farm is having a special Mother's Day event and preview Farmer's Market.  Lynda will be there from 9 am to 2 pm and you don't want to miss the beautiful wool she has dyed.  Lynda has approximately 27 colors, many in hard to find shades.  You can find more information at Lynda Rose Hand Dyed Wool

I've also been busy getting a new pattern ready for print.  I'm really excited about this new design and Lynda has cut kits which include 20 wool colors.  Check back here in just a few days to see "Picking Posies".  For now, here's a little preview:
